Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney wouldn’t miss out on 2021 without one final, great meme. By 2022 around the corner, Swinney showed up for his Cheez-It Bowl press conference that looked like this.
It’s really not that strange in isolation. I mean, Iowa state head coach Matt Campbell is standing right there in black overalls for his school, so they basically wear the same thing. Rather, orange is a hell of a good choice compared to black, and damn it, it got a lot of emotions going.
There is absolutely no denying that most of the time we see someone wearing orange jumpsuit, on time off, picking up trash on the side of the road. So of course this was your first choice.
But my goodness, was there a lot more ingenuity than comparing Dabo to a prisoner?
The thing about the orange jumpsuit look is that you have to be monumental and incredibly cool to pull it off. It takes a certain level of confidence that Swinney could never pull off – and that’s why it was all so hilarious.
Maybe orange really is the new black.
Hell, maybe we’re too unfair and Dabo is about to save us all from annihilation.
What if we got this all wrong and Swinney is a critical part of the rebellion?
It’s not just the orange, it’s the hands on his hips, the stupid smile on his face – the entire aura that Dabo exudes here makes it amazing. It’s like the expanded cast of The Sopranos moved to South Carolina for tax reasons and became Clemson boosters.
It may have been a disastrous year for the 9-3 Tigers by their high standards at the National Championship, but they will always have a coach ready to show up for the school. Good luck with the chain gang, Dabo.
