NAIROBI (Reuters) – US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is very concerned about the military escalation in Ethiopia and has called for urgent negotiations on the crisis, a US State Department spokesman said.

“Secretary Blinken expressed his grave concern about worrying signs of military escalation in Ethiopia and stressed the need to start negotiations urgently,” Ned Price said in a statement late Friday.

Price released the statement after a phone call between Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta and Blinken.
