Roommate, it looks like Nicki Minaj got a victory in court that will allow her to keep a large amount of money. Yesterday, a judge ruled the rapper failed to respond to a lawsuit brought by Jennifer Hough. If you recall, Jennifer accused Nicki’s husband, Kenneth Petty, of the rape allegations in 1994. Kenneth was convicted of attempted rape and served four and a half years in prison. However, his problems with Jennifer still persist today.
According to Yahoo, Jennifer and her legal team urged the court to try the couple on a $ 20 million lawsuit for failing to respond. However, a federal official denied the application this week, citing court documents that Nicki had done her due diligence and had already hired a lawyer to defend her on the case. However, her husband has not yet responded.
On October 15, Nicki filed an affidavit that she had successfully engaged an attorney in late September but had unfortunately encountered a series of “innocent misunderstandings” that resulted in late payment fees to fully secure the services. Nicki said in a statement: “My failure to respond to the complaint was the product of an innocent mistake and I ask the court to apologize for the delay so that I can defend what I believe to be a completely reckless case.”
Nicki’s attorney, Judd Burstein, also issued a statement confirming the facts, which states: “I confirm the veracity of these parts of the defendants’ statement regarding my role in their failure to promptly secure my services.” Even though Nicki doesn’t have to pay Jennifer, her team doesn’t let up. Jennifer’s legal representative, Tyrone Blackburn, says that despite the judge’s dismissal, he still plans to miss a motion against Kenneth for $ 20 million on behalf of his client, whom he believes is rightly owed to her .
In a statement to Rolling Stone, Tyrone said, “It is interesting that Kenneth Petty is currently in the Eastern District of New York suing New York State, but he has no respect for this trial or for this judge himself and to answer for the rape of Jennifer Hough in 1994 and all the harassment he and his wife and thugs have caused since then. “
If you remember, Jennifer went to “The Real” last month, where she detailed the alleged harassment by the Pettys, which she claims started nine months ago.
Roommate, we will keep you informed of any new information about this suit as it becomes available.
